Vilcek, J. | Dzatko, M. (Soil Fertility Research Inst., Bratislava (Slovak Republic))
Some of the many obstacles to implementing ecological farming systems in Slovakia are described: new land owners do not always know their soil capabilities; profit-geared farming damages sustainability; subsidies bring into production land better left out; legislative and juristic measures that would support ecological farming are lacking; and in spite of beneficial indications, there is still absent a full-value and functional market in agricultural products and soil. Tables reveal production categories of pedo-ecological units (lowlands, hilly land, basins, Flysch and volcanic mountains); nature of cultivation; sowing area structure on arable land; hectare yields presumptions; and economic and energetic balances
