The replacement of roughage by Rhaponticum carthamoides Willd.

Results are presented of a sixty-day experiment testing the influence of Rhaponticum carthamoides Willd on growing lamb weight increase and health. The animals were fed with a diet in which 1O % of the regular hay was replaced by hay from Rhaponticum carthamoides Willd. At the end of the experiment the animals fed without Rhaponticum carthamoides achieved a weight of 21.36 kg, while the experimental group showing better health achieved 23.77 kg. The consumption of feedstuff per kg weight gain in the group fed with the diet containing R.c. was 4.75 % lower than in the control group
