Morphogenetic and phenological observations of black currants in the conditions of Nitra
1997
Revayova, D. | Kovac, J. | Gobo, A.
During 1991-1993, the morphogenesis of black currants of the varieties Otelo (Booskop Black x Silvergieter) and Favorit (Ribes dikuscha x Topsy) was investigated in Nitra (Slovakia). The phenological observations by Latin (1973) were also performed on the variety Eva (Silvergieter x Holland Black). At the end of June, differentiation of generative buds began and in the first and second half of June, 3rd and 4th organogenesis stage respectively took place. 5th stage starts in early August and lasts until the third decade of February or early March. Differentiation of the inflorescence and flowers of the Otelo variety, which ripens later than other varieties, takes place on average one week later than Favorit. The secondary inflorescence differentiation starts in early August. A fruit-bearing sprout part was found to be bigger in the Favorit. The beginning of black currant budbreak was primarily influenced by the temperature in February, the Favorit variety showing the most sensitive response to these conditions; the temperatures below 5 deg C are sufficient to initiate its budbreak. The beginning of flowering was effected by the temperature conditions in March, low temperatures delaying the beginning of flowering and vice versa. During the research period, the longest flowering time (13 days) was found in the Favorit variety. Low relative humidity of the air as well as high temperatures reduce flowering duration
