Nutrition is the key factor for harmonized human development. Nutrition is characterized in the amount of consumption and in the consumption structure of each kind of food. Of foods of animal origin the consumption of meat, milk and eggs have a decisive position under Slovak conditions. Consumption of these significantly decreased from 1991 to 1997. The consumption of chicken meat increased above the recommended ration. Decreasing consumption of butter and animal fat is one positive development in approaching the amount of recommended rations. In general, the total consumption of animal origin food products from year 1990 decreased, but stablized after 1994
