In 1992-1996, the effects of phosphate-potassium fertilizers on some qualitative parameters of hay were studied in semi-natural and temporary grasslands, with special reference to content of primary and secondary metabolites. A higher content of lignin, soluble and esterified fatty acids as well as a lower digestability of organic matter were found in the semi-natural grassland, as compared to the temporary one. There were no significant differences between semi-natural and temporary grasslands in saccharides content. The results suggest that a certain standard quality of silages might be achieved not only in non-fertilized grasslands but also in intensively fertilized ones, this conclusion being also true of the phosphate-potassium fertilization
