Flax germplasm conservation has an old tradition in the Czech Republic, whose National Collection ranks as the largest in Europe following the Saint Petersburg (Russia) Flax Collection. 1924 flax genotypes are included in the National Flax Collection of Agritec Ltd., containing 513 land varieties and primitive forms, 895 varieties as well as 461 accessions of breeding material of 1869 genotypes of known origin. Agritec Ltd. has been established as a co-ordination centre of the International Flax Database (IFDB) since 1994. 1251 original flax genotypes of 14 contributing genebanks from the Czech Republic, Russia, Ukraine, Rumania, Bulgaria, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Northern Ireland and the USA are currently included in IFDB
