In an experiment with open-top chambers in a mountain stand of young (12-year-old) Norway spruce (Picea abies (l.) KARST.), the trees were continuously exposed to one of two CO2 concentrations during three growing seasons. To evaluate the influence of elevated atmospheric CO2 the relationship between the rate of CO2 uptake and incident photosynthetically active photon flux density was measured, the content of photosynthetic pigment was estimated and chlorophyll fluorescence was analysed during the third growing season. Two types of the CO2 concentration effect were investigated. Calvin cycle and end-product synthesis can be confirmed for Norway spruce response to the long-term influence of elevated CO2
