Pollutants - Soil - Vegetation

Hronec, O.
The atmosphere in Slovakia is polluted mainly by gas pollutants of SO2 and NOx. Next pollutants from point sources join them in certain areas resulting in formation of specific immission types. There are nine large contaminated areas in Slovakia at present. Excluding gas pollutants there are stiff fly pollutants that transform intensity of solar radiation and increase heavy metal cumulation in soils, water and living organisms. It seems to be one of the highest ecological risks. Effects of SO2 and other gas immissions on plants and soils are analyzed. Toxicity of stiff fly is observed with emphasis on heavy metals (Hg, Pb, Cd, Cr, As, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ni). The aim of this publication was to analyse heavy metal contents in soils and plants in selected immission areas of eastern Slovakia. The publication provides complete analysis of emission and immissions in eastern Slovakia, monitors heavy metal contents in plants and soils, use of bioindication methods, pot experiments, and biological tests. The economical point of view is submitted. Simultaneously suggestions are provided for preventing the uptake of pollutants into the foodchain
