In 1994, the beetle (Coleoptera) fauna of the natural reservation Devinska Kobyla hill (SW Slovakia) was investigated using ground traps. A total of 2,982 individuals belonging to 34 families was collected. 237 species were identified. The average number of beetles in the catch was 497 per individual trap, 15 ind. per week and 2.1 ind. per day. The dominant species were: Kibunea minuta (Elateridae), Pseudophonus rufipes (Carabidae), Crypticus quisquilius (Tenebrionidae), Staphylinus mus (Staphylinidae), Otiorhynchus raucus and Otiorhynchus ovatus (Curculionidae). The number of specimens caught was influenced mostly by precipitation, i.e., at high precipitation lower numbers of beetles were present in the catch than in the dry season
