Regeneration and asexual reproduction of Hydra oligactis treated with different pesticides
1997
Kalafatic, M. (Zagreb Univ., Zagreb (Croatia). Dept. of Zoology)
Under laboratory conditions, individuals of Hydra oligactis PALLAS were exposed to sublethal concentrations of three pesticides: Dimiline WP 25 (diflubenzurone), Torak EC 24 (dialifos) and Gamacide 20 (hexachlorcyclohexane). Results showed that all pesticides applied caused changes in cytological and histological constitution, affected asexual reproduction and caused deformities. The highest mortality and the most prominent changes and deformities were caused by Gamacide 20, while the fewest were caused by Dimiline WP 25. The intensity of asexual reproduction after treatment differed. Hydras treated with Dimiline WP 25 budded more intensively than the controls. Similar activity was observed in hydras treated with a weaker solution of Torak EC 24 and Gamacide 20, while hydras treated with stronger solutions of these two insecticides budded less than the control ones
