Enteroviral infections of calves in Poland
1998
Wrzolek-Lobocka, G. (Agricultural Univ., Lublin (Poland). Department of Veterinary Microbiology)
18 strains of viruses which replicated with cytopathic effect in cell line BTR (bovine trachea) were isolated from the faeces of convalescent and diarrhoeal calves at the age of 1-3 months. The cytopathic effects were characteristic for enteroviruses. These lesions appeared after the second day following infection with the BTR, and the maximum level of virus was 10E-6 - 10E-7 TCID sub(50)/0.1 ml. In the electron microscope the isolates have a cubic symmetry (diameter 20-30 nm). On the basis of their morphology, resistance to chloroform and lack of replication inhibition by 5-iodine-2'desoxyuridine (IUDR) the isolated strains were classified in the enterovirus group
