Carbon and nitrogen recycling in ecosystems of semi-natural, over-drilled and temporary grasslands
1997
Ondrasek, L. (Grassland and Mountain Agriculture Research Inst., Banska Bystrica (Slovak Republic))
Trials were conducted in semi-natural, over-sown and renovated grasslands at seven sites in the mountain and upland regions of the Slovak Republic. Changes in soil organic matter and respiration activity at different levels of fertilizer application were studied. It was found that the content of oxidizable carbon and total nitrogen significantly increased in soil under the over-sown grassland and mostly decreased in the renovated grassland. The effects of nutrient application were not significant due to low fertilizer rates. There was a positive relationship between soil respiration and COX content in soil (r=0.66+++). Another positive relationship was found between soil respiration and yield (r=0.47++). When data from the fertilizer treatments and renovated grasslands were excluded, a close dependence was found in the regression relation (r=0.80++)
