Five kinds of organic solvents such as bezene, methanol, ethylacetate, acetone and petroleumether have been introduced to use as seed soaking meterial. Mungbean seeds have been used to study on infestation by cowpea beetles, Callosobruchus maculatus. Yard long bean seeds have been used to study on infestation by rice weevil Sitophylus oryzae. We found that all five kinds of organic solvent could eliminate infestated insects in all stage of their life cycle after soaking seeds for 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours. After the seeds have been dried out from the solvents then kept in sealed plastic bag to study on storability. The result of study showed that soaking seed in organic solvent for a short period l-day did not showed damage on the seeds comparing with control. This have been proved by seed moisture, germination percentage, speed of germination and electrical conductivity of soaked seed water during one year storage period of sweet corn, yard long bean, soybean and okra seeds.
