Combining ability and heterosis for yield and yield components of yard long bean
1993
Prataung Sagachit
Ten lines of yard long bean were crossed in diallel manner to produce 45 hybrids with no reciprocal crosses. The F1's and their parental lines were evaluated in RCBD with 3 replications. Their combining abilities were analyzed according to Griffing (1956) method 2 model I. Yield per plant, pod length, number of pods per plant, climbing age, day to flowering and day to first harvesting were influenced by both additive and non - additive genes. The additive one appeared to have more influence. The line number 03 - 04 - 08 had highest combining ability in yield per plant, number of pods per plant and climbing age at 87.4 gm, 6.0 pods, and 0.6 day respectively. The general combining ability was low in day to flowering, day to 50 % blooming, day to first harvesting and range of harvest at -0.8, -0.8, -0.5 and -0.7 days, respectively. The line number 03-02-12 had the highest general combining ability in pod length of 6.9 cm and they tended to produce hybrids which have longer pod length. Pod colour was found to be mainly controlled by additive gene. Many hybrids showed heterosis in yield per plant, number of pods per plant in comparing to mid - parent value. However, relatively low heterosis was identified in climbing age, day to flowering, day to first harvesting and range of harvest.
