Logging concession, the long term permission for logging in the consession area, is given to concessionaire with anticipation that the concessionaire will take part in protection and improvement of the forest growing stock to provide product sustainability for long term benefit to most people. The Dong Mun concesion area, Kalasin (KS.1) is one of the NE non-teak forest conceded to Kalasin Logging Company Limited (KLC). The area is 590 square km and the period under contract is 30 years beginning 1973 to 2203. Logging operation commenced in 1974 and stopped for certain period due to security problem in the area. And finally the contract ceased following the government decision on logging ban in January 1989. This report is intend to reveal process, fact and sequences of happennings and changes following the logging operation in 1973 to present, this study was designed: 1. To review documents and original data recorded. 2. To interview government officials for reliability of data and records. 3. To conduct forest reconnaissance and growing stock inventory. 4. To conduct socio-economic survey and attitude of forest settlers 5. To draw time series land-use maps for land-use changes analysis. 6. To integrate information, data and fact obtained and formulate resolution under existing law and regulation. Results reveal that KLC obtained long term logging concession for 30-year period 1973-2003. Logging began in 1974 to 1978 and then ceased due to insurgent in the area. The company resumed logging in 1985 and finally ceased in 1989 by the government logging ban. During the discontinued period about 7 years by army order, there were no protection nor improvement activities. Forestry officers and concessionaire workers were not allowed to work in the concession area. When the situation resurged the forest of the concession area were almost depleted.
