The experiments of 5 cropping patterns were studied in irrigated paddy field of the Nakhon Pathom soil series of Chainat Rice Experiment Station for 2 periods, from 1987 to 1989 and 1990 to 1992. We laid out them in a randomized complete block design, with four replications of 10*15 m each plot. The first period of cropping pattern consisted of (1) water melon-mungbean-sweet corn-rice; (2) soybean-maize-rice; (3) soybean-mugbean-rice; (4) cucumber-yardlong bean-baby corn-rice; and (5) rice-rice. The second period was rearranged from the first one to be (1) sweet corn-yardlong bean-rice; (2) vegatable soybean-baby corn-rice; (3) cucumber-glutinous corn-rice; (4) angled rag gourd-mungbean-rice; and (5) rice-rice. The total cost, income and net return of each cropping pattern were recorded to evaluate the profit. The result of the first period (1987-1989) showed that the hihgest net return was the fourth cropping pattern with 7,586 bath/rai/year. For the second period (1990-1992), the first cropping pattern gave the highest net return of 14,866 baht/rai/year. The pattern of rice-rice showed low profit in both period (1,440-1,774 baht/rai/year). The individual cash crops such as yardlong bean, cucumber, sweet corn, vegetable soybean and baby corn should be recommended to the farmer in dry season.
