In 1989 rainy season, the Vegetable Corn Regional Yield Trials were carried out in order to evaluate for suitable vegetable corn varieties in quality and yield. The varieties were 8 sweet corn, 1 glutinous and 1 Tien corn, open-pollinated varieties from Chiangmai Field Crop Research Center. A Randomized Complete Block Design, 10 treatments, 4 replications with 3*6 squaremeter plot size, 4 rows/plot at 9 locations covered the north, north-eastern and central part of Thailand. The results averaged from 8 locations except Khon Khen, showed that the sweet corn varieties: HSSW (S) C1 F2 and CMS 8901 F3 produced weight of fresh ear by 1,542 and 1,434 kg/rai which were higher than that 1,368 kg/rai of HSSW DMR. Moreover, the 2 varieties were early maturity with medium height and good quality when compared with HSSW DMR. Their 50 % silking dates were 50 and 52 compared to 56 days of HSSW DMR. Their averaged plant height were 172 and 170 compared to 206 cm but their degrees of resistance to downy mildew were lower than HSSW DMR. It is recommended that farmer should grow HSSW DMR in area where downy mildew disease is severe instead of HSSW (S) C1 F2. For glutinous and tien corn the recommended varieties were still Kaset Khow and SSRTW 8801. They were early maturity and good tenderness quality with averaged yield by 1,329 and 904 kg/rai.
