In 1989 rainy season, the Baby Corn Regional Yield Trials were carried out in order to evaluate for suitable baby corn varieties in quality of baby corn ears and yield. The varieties were open-pollinated and hybrids from government and private sector. A Randomized Complete Block Design, 12 treatments, 4 replications with 2*6 squaremeter plotsize, 4 rows/plot a 8 locations covered the north, northeastern, Central and western parts of Thailand. The results averaged from 7 locations except Roiet Experiment Station showed that the open-pollinated varieties from Chiangmai Field Crop Research Center: CMB 8705 F2 and CMB 8704 F3 produced weight of baby corn ears with husk and weight of standard ears significantly higher than that of check and hybrid varieties. Especially, the variety CMB 8704 F3 produced weight of baby corn ears with husk by 1,133 kg/rai which was higher than that of baby corn composite, Suwan 2 and Rangsit 1 by 8, 9 and 35 % respectively. A similar result was obtained in weight of standard ears, the variety CMB 8704 F3 produced by 177 kg/rai which was higher than those varieties by 6, 19 and 63 %, respectively. Moreover, the variety CMB 8704 F3 was early maturity, their baby corn ears could be picked up at 43 days as same as baby corn composite but earlier than Suwan 2 and Rangsit 1 by 2 and 5 days. Therefore, the variety was reccommended to farmer by the name Chiangmai 90 in 1990.
