Rajjaprabha Dam, located at Ban Ta Khun District, Surat Thani Province, is a multipurpose dam. Generally, construction of a dam has affects on aquatic ecological environments as well as on fish - species diversity. In order to get information caused by such construction to be used for future solution, studies on fish - species compositions and some biological aspects of fishes in the reservior above the dam had been performed after 6 years of the dam's construction. Results gained from the studies will be used for fishery resource management and freshwater aquaculture. There were 81 species of 21 families of fishes found within the impoundment, in the streams and waterfalls which flowed into the reservior. There were 52 forage species and 29 carnivorous species of fishes found from the survey. Fish components found were 36 species of cyprinid fishes (44.4 %), 13 species of catfishes (16.1 %), 9 species of loaches (11.1 %), 5 species of murrels or snake - headed fish (6.2 %) and 18 species of miscellaneous fishes (22.2 %). Most species of fishes spawned from April - October. The main areas for spawning and/or habitats for the youngs were streams and waterfalls of sites no. 1-3. By using Chi - square in general, there was no statistical significance between number of male and female at 95 % confident level.
