Genetic variability, combining ability and heterotic performance were estimated in 5 percents and 20 hybrids of of sesame plant (Sesamum indicum L.). The general and specific combining ability variance and effects for all characters studied revealed the predominance of additive gene action. Howerver, heterosis of seed yield was not significant. Parent "CB-80" and "Nakhon Sawan" were considered the best combiners for seed yield per plant and number of seeds per capsule. The cross "CB-80xNakhon Sawan" exhibited the heighest seed yield out of F1 hybrids. The best performers out of F1 hybrids in each character was the crosses between parental varieties which had the highest general combining ability and the second highest general combining ability. For number of nodes, number of seeds per capsule and 1000 seed weight, judging from significant correlation between parental performance and relative frequency of dominant or recessive alleles, it was manifested that more desirable lines accumulating respective alleles might be selected.
