Efficacy of fungicides in controlling late blight of potato

The trials were carried out during 1990-91 and 1991-92 in three locations (Bogra, Comilla and Munshiganj) with a view to controlling late blight (Phytophthora infestans) of potato. Ten treatments used in the trials were: Dithane M-45, Fungi kill, Homai 80 wp (Foliar and seed treatment), Mannex-ll, Penncozeb, Ridomil MZ 72 wp, Ridomil + Dithane M-45 and two sprays of Ridomil alternated with one spray of Dithane M-45. Of them, Ridomil ranked best in reducing disease severity and increasing yield followed by two sprays of Ridomil alternated with one spray of Dithane M-45 and Ridomil + dithane M-45. Newly tested fungicides viz., Fungi kill, Homai, Mannex ll and Penncozeb also gave effective control of the disease.
