The study of changes in the trend brings to the fore the interest of analysing the structure of rainfall time-series. This paper presents an application on annual rainfall data in West Africa in order to assess the start of the latest drought. Several tests are jointly used for the analysis of rainfall in the time period 1950-1990. The year of the change is determined for each time-series. The sample represents more than a thousand stations. The decrease in the rainfall is analysed by comparison of the two populations situated on both sides of the change point.
