Selenium in potatoes
1999
Kaerblane, H. | Kevvai, T. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
Estonian soils are poor in selenium, containing 10.4microg kg (sup)-1 water soluble selenium as the average of 32 samples. In case of soils of such a low selenium content there was 1.6...8.2 (on average 3.5) microg kg (sup)-1 of selenium in potato dry matter. The potato grown in Estonia is not contaminated by selenium but in using potato for food or feed it contains considerably less selenium than required. In order to get more valuable food or feed potato regarding selenium content, further investigations are needed to find out different possibilities to raise crop selenium content. For example usage of fertilizing with selenium containing complex fertilizers
