There is no special mechanism for regulating urea content in blood plasma. In extracellular space the urea content depends on protein catabolism and glomerular filtration taking place in the kidneys, and on urea and water tubular reabsorption following it. In urine the urea content was about 30 times higher than in blood plasma and the correlation between them was statistically significant. Even a higher correlation occurred between the daily urea content in blood plasma. 98 per cent of the total amount of urea, eliminated with urine and milk, was removed with urea
