The influence of different ways of stubble cultivation on weediness of cereals

Some conclusions drawn from the long-term 16 year lasting experiment. The most effective way to keep weediness under control, appeared to be the usage of plough with a mould-board for stubble cultivation and for autumnal main cultivation too. Minimizing cultivation of the soil in conditions of monocultural tillage is possible periodically. Consistent avoidance of plough in stubble cultivation and changing autumnal ploughing for loosening causes progressive rise of weediness with annual and perennial weed species. Long term minimizing of autumnal ploughing is possible in cases of periodical usage of chemical weed control. Permanent monoculture of cereals fosters increasingly intensive growth of weediness. Therefore the effectiveness of using plough with a mould-board for stubble cultivation and autumnal cultivation compared with the usage of stubble cultivator for the sample purpose, rises proportionally with the duration of monocultural tillage of cereals. The way of main cultivation influences the effectiveness of stubble cultivation. Autumnal ploughing raises the effectiveness of plough as a stubble cultivator and also complements stubble cultivators abilities of weed control. Autumnal cultivation of good quality eliminates weed shoots grown after stubble cultivation more effectively than autumnal looseing of soil
