The crossreactions to Brucella abortus in 10 out of 27 heifers imported from Holland to Estonia in the beginning of 1997 occurred apparently due to Yersinia enterocolitica infection. The results of repeated serological investigations in Veterinary Laboratory of Tartu (Tables 1 and 2) and in Central Veterinary Laboratory in Weybridge (UK) are presented (Table 2). The antibody titres have persisted on detectable levels for indirect ELISA (SVANOVA, Sweden) at least for five months. The Yersinia enterocolitica was isolated and identified in pure culture from faeces of one crossreacting animal.
