The effects of powdered neem seed (PNS) as a treatment for corn against corn weevil was evaluated at the Regional Crop Protection Center, Bangcud, Malaybalay City [Philippines] last Sep 1995-Mar 1998. Results of the study showed that powdered neem seed at 10 percent rate and applied by admixture, effectively controlled infestation by weevils on grains stored for 5 months as monitored in 4 occassions. Compared to heavily-infested and totally damaged grains in control, neem-treated grains were practically uninfested and totally damaged grains in control, neem-treated grains were practically uninfested and undamaged until the 150th day. As a result, grain weight in neem-treated grains was unaffected. In addition, germination percentage was comparable to chemically-treated grains while grains in control treatment failed to germinate. Findings also indicated that the application of powdered neem seed significantly lowered the incidence of fungal diseases of stored corn. Economic analysis further revealed that treating 100 kg corn seeds with 10 percent PNS by admixture obtained the highest return on investment (ROI) of 548.31 percent compared to chemical treatment which got 97.60 percent only. Application of 5 percent PNS by admixture also showed a considerably high ROI of 496.13 percent while other treatments exhibited negative returns
