Communication and selected factors of scientific productivity among researchers in the Los Banos Science Community [Philippines]

Not all the hypotheses of the study were supported by the findings of the study which included the following: a) frequency of communication was not significantly related with any of the selected factors of scientific productivity; b) duration of communication and number of colleagues communicated with were significantly related with the respondents' publication output; c) the channel of communication, initiated visit, was significantly related with the respondents' publication output, while use of e-mail and fax were both significantly related with their teaching of young scientists. The individual factors found significantly related were: a) nontechnical executives with professional standing; b) influence of combination of self and colleagues in deciding R & D [research and development] goals/objectives with creative/pioneering scientific work, c) number of specialization with creative/pioneeering scientific work, d) dedication to research work with all the selected factors of scientific productivity except authorship/editorship of scientific publications; e) technical literature as motivating stimuli with professional standing; f) preference to probe deeply and thoroughly on selected areas with authorship/editorship of scientific publications and teaching of young scientists; g) finding general principles that apply to many situations with creative/pioneering scientific work and authorship/editorship of scientific publications; h) finding immediate solutions to specific problems with teaching of young scientists; i) job opportunities to grow professionally and learn new knowledge and skills and advance in administrative hierarchy and status with teaching of young scientists and authorship/editorship of scientific publications, respectively; j) career perception with creative/pioneering scientific work and publication output; k) turning out a thoroughly sound and careful piece of work with creative/pioneering scientific work and teaching of young scientists; l) publishing a paper and securing a patent and helping technical personnel grow and develop, both with teaching of young scientists; m) job opportunities to make full use of present expertise and skills and earn a good salary with professional standing; n) work on problems of value to the nation's well being with teaching of young scientists and professional standing, and o) contribute to broad technical knowledge in their field with teaching of young scientists
