Path analysis of the major yield and quality characters in Brassica campestris

Seven genotypes of Brassica campestris and a standard variety of Brassica napus were analyzed to calculate genetic variability, correlation and path coefficient; coefficient of variability percentage was greater in traits like 1000-seed weight, pod length and number of seeds per pod for both genotypic and phenotypic variability. The genotypic and phenotypic correlation coefficients reflected that seed yield per plot was positively and significantly correlated with plant height, number of secondary branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, seed yield per plant and protein content. Negative correlation coefficients were found between seed yield per plot and number of primary branches per plant, pod length and oil content. Path analysis of yield with other traits indicated that number of seeds per pod exerted the highest effect on seed yield per plot.
