Hylaeus communis selected wooden twigs, soil cliffs, but most often the empty stalks of Leonurus and of Rubus idaeus and tubes from trace paper with a canal diameter of 2-6 mm (mainly 3-4 mm) and a canal length of 1-20 cm (most often about 15 cm). The nests contained 1-17 larval cells (average 4.7) and were usually closed with 1-4 stoppers made from pellucid membrane. H. communis hibernated as prepupa
