The passive solar system in vertical position in the sides of greenhouse
1996
Dimitriou, E.
Although many research works have been published on the use of the passive solar system (pss) with horizontal plastic tubes located between the plant rows, as far as we know there are not published papers on the case of vertical tubes used as storage in greenhouses. In the present research work four experiments were carried out. In the first one, the efficiency of the pss placed in vertical position along the four sides of a greenhouse was studied. It was found that the water tubes absorb almost equal amounts of energy whatever the side of location. In the second experiment, the effect of the circumference of the tubes on the absorption of solar energy was studied. It was found that the bigger the circumference of the tubes in vertical position, the higher the energy absorbed. For practical reasons, it was not possible to use plastics tubes of more than 60 cm of circumference. In the third experiment, the efficiency of the water tubes to collect solar energy when located vertically or horizontally was studied. It was found that the vertically located tubes are 22 percent less efficient in collecting solar energy than the horizontal ones. In the fourth experiment, the increase inefficiency of the vertically located water tubes after adding black acrylic colour was studied. For this experiment, it was observed that the addition of 8g of acrylic colour in 74l of water in the vertically located plastics tubes increase the efficiency of the system by 38 percent
