The 3rd International Symposium was attended by 55 participants from 19 countries of Europe, Asia and North America. 28 lectures were given and there were 23 poster presentations. The scientific programme dealt with taxonomy, ecology, applied limnology, cytophysiology and genetics of chlorophytes and euglenophytes. Articles include: Morphology and taxonomy of some unicellular chlorophytes attached to planktic organisms; Green algae of five city fountains in Bratislava (Slovak Republic); Phytoplankton development of the Cunovo (Hrusov) Reservoir in the Danube river (Slovak Republic) during 1995-1997; Chlorophytes and the chlorophyll-a content in some side arms of the Danube river in Slovakia; Changes of the Chlorophyta species in the phytoplankton of the Hungarian section of the Danube river during the last decades (1961-1997); Green algae in water supllies: a review; and Algae as bioactivation system for promutagens
