American Marigolds (Tagetes erecta) cv. Orange No.1 and French Marigolds (Tagetes patula) cv. Giant Flower Bicolor were grown in November, December, January and February, 1993/1994 at Khao-Kho District, Phetchaboon with the spacing of 30*50 and 40*50 and 50*50 cm in cv. Orange No.1 and 20*50 30*50 and 40*50 cm in cv. Giant Flower Bicolor. Planting date had an effect on plant height, days to flower, seed yield and quality of both cultivars. Early flowering was determined in marigold plants grown in November while the longest flowering period and the highest flower number per plant were obtained from plants grown in December. Plants grown in December also produced the highest seed yield per plant. But the highest seed germination were obtained from plants grown in November and the lowest seed germination were obtained from plants grown in February. Spacing had no effect on seed yield, seed germination and germination index in both cultivars, but plants grown in narrow spacing had tendency to produce the highest seed yield per area. Orange No.1 produced better seed yield and quality than Giant Flower Bicolor.
