A total of 160 samples from the Republic of Serbia (Yugoslavia) were analyzed during a three-year-period (1994-1996), intended for feeding all categories of poultry. Standard methods were applied in sample analysis and the obtained results were compared with values stated in the Book of Regulations on the quality of animal feed (Yugoslav Official Register, 15/89 and 54/90). The content of the basic nutritive components in the examined samples (water, ashes, proteins, fat and cellulose) showed considerable heterogenicity. The obtained results undoubtedly point to the errors made during the production of feed. We are of the opinion that the application of a continuous and multidegree monitoring of quality is the only mode of providing products of high quality and for protection of consumers.
