Effect of fir and spruce plantations on the changes of humus composition and dystric cambisols adsorptive complex

The changes of dystric cambisol caused by fir and spruce plantations established by the substitution of beech stands at Tornicka Bobija (west Serbia, Yugoslavia) have been researched. In 30-year-old plantations, the changes were recorded in litter composition, group fractional composition of humus and in the composition of exchangeable cations. Significantly greater changes occurred in the soil under spruce plantation, which was the result of a more unfavourable chemical nature of needles cast by spruce, but also a greater predisposition of soil for the processes of eluviation due to a lower content of sesquioxide. On this site, we can expect more intensive processes of podzolization in the second half of the rotation.
