The paper deals with the impact of various substrates on the success of rooting of some tree and shrub species, as well as the effect of different times of pricking out the cuttings. The cuttings were collected and transplanted in August and in June and they were lifted from the rooting substrate in March and February. The experimental substrates were composed of different mixtures of carbonate sands and dystric peat. The control substrates were pure sand, pure peat and perlite. Significant differences were observed in the success of rooted cuttings pricked out into different substrates. It was also observed that, compared to August pricking out, the transplanting in June provides a significantly greater number of successfully rooted cuttings and cuttings with the formed callus tissue. In addition, all species show a greater tolerance to soil properties if the cuttings are collected and pricked out in June.
