Reaction of different varieties winter barley (Hordeum vulgare) to lead concentration in the soil

A pot experiment included three soil levels (0.100 and 1000 mg Pb/kg soil), two soils (pH-7.3 and 4.8) and eight Bulgarian winter barley varieties was carried out. The content of mobile lead has increased 120 times at the variant with the highest lead rate at soil with pH -4.8. For the soil with pH- 7.3 this increasing was only 20.5 times. The Pb content in barley grain from all studied varieties was relatively low from 0.1 to o.5 mg Pb/kg. Content of Pb in soil up to 1000 mg/kg did not lead to considerable increasing of Pb concentration in barley grain grown on neutral and slight acid soils.
