The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of three liquid culture media(CMM-cooked meat medium, TPGY- tripticasopeptone glucose broth with yeast extract and Kitt-Tarocci broth with CaCO3) for isolation and quantitative assessment of C. botulinum in foodstuffs of animal orgin. A test C. botulinum strain type B/No 364 of the Bulgarian Type Culture Collection and three groups of food were used. Best growth and development was achieved in Kitt-Tarocci broth with CaCO3. TPGY has comparatively good growth qualities. Poor growth and development were observed in CMM. Results of this study indicate that Kitt-Tarocci medium is most appropriate for isolation and assessment of C. botulinum content in milk-products and TPGY and CMM - in fish foodsteffs. TPGY and Kitt-Tarocci can be successfully used for isolaton and assessment of C. botulinum in meat products.
