[Fusarium ear disease in winter wheat]
1998
Wittouck, D.
In the summer of 1998 there was an important attack of Fusarium disease on the ear in winter wheat in Belgium. According to the Unit of Phytopathology in Gembloux (Belgium) mainly the Fusarium species Microdochium nivale was present on the ear in Belgium in 1998. Trials executed through the Provincial Centre for Agriculture and Horticulture in Rumbeke-Beitem (Belgium), proved that, in case of a high level of ear attack by Fusarium spp., important yield losses can occur. Differences are found inthe susceptibility of winter wheat cultivars to ear attack with Fusarium spp. Cultivar research carried out in the Flemish part of Belgium in 1998 showed that Legat was the most healthy cultivar with regard to ear attack with Fusarium spp., Sponsor and Corbeil came next. On the contrary Charger was affected most, followed by Efal, Beaufort and Record. A large humidity or a long rainy period round about the ear stage, can give the occasion to include Fusarium disease control during the treatment in the stage emergence of ear complete.
