The spread of the A2- mating type has created the conditions, where the raising of the resistance to the potato late blight can be based solely upon the field resistance. Hereby the racial composition of the pathogene population must be considered. Our research has revealed it, that out of the 12 Ph. infestans isolates, only three are capable of infecting the variety 'Sarme', which is based on the R1R2R3R4 genotype. The duration of the pathogenesis, the necrosis of the in vitro meristem plants, the intensiveness of the sporulation depend on the immunological qualities of the variety and reflect its field resistance. In a number of cases, the occurrence of the disease on the in vitro plants correlates with the field resistance. In a number of cases, the occurrence of the disease on the in vitro plants correlates with the field resistance, as can be observed in the varieties 'Premier', 'Bintje' et al
