Based on the evaluation of 213 bulls of the Estonian Red breed the effect of bull fathers, birth place and birth year was investigated. These factors were listed in a statistical analysis according to their significance as follows: birth place, father and birth year. In the comparison of bull fathers the following 5 bulls - West (austrian swiss), Salfei (Swedish Red-and-White), SAJ Calmo and Balis (Danish Red) and Joel (Red Holstein) - considerably exceeded the others, in particular in the yield data. Nugget (Red Holstein) could have also been one of them, however it showed a considerable decrease in milk protein content. The sons of the bulls of the older generation (Soosik, Hanko) fell considerably behind, compared with the others. Analysis of the relationship between the birth year and breeding value of bulls should prove the positive course of genetic drift, in which the bulls of the younger generations considerably exeed the older ones. This tendency could be seen in the production of milk, milk fat, and protein, however, not so strongly. Considerabledeviations mostly result from the utilisation of bulls descending from a big variety of dairy breeds in the breeding of the Estonian Red breed
