Developmental stages of the international nomenclature of anatomy as reflected in pedagogical and research literature: the case of bovine pelvic bones

Morphological terminology is based on the Basel Nomenclature of Anatomy (BNA) that deals with human anatomy and was worked out by an international committee at the end of the 19th century. The latter served also as the basis for the terminology used in veterinary anatomy because veterinary anatomy has developed as a branch of human anatomy. The paper describes the morphological changes caused by intensive breeding in the pelvic bones of EHF cows that the terminology of veterinary anatomy does not cover as yet. Also, the paper draws attention to those special terms and topographical descriptions of the subparts of pelvic bones that, despite the remarkable differences in the structure of human and bovine pelvic bones, have been uncritically transferred from human anatomy to veterinary anatomy
