Impact of process characteristics on the physical condition of feed pellets

We have been involved for many years with investigating at our Institute the impact of material characteristics and process parameters on the mechanical properties of pellets, as a part of studying the feed mixing plant technologies and their development. The studies were carried out partly with a laboratory pelleting equipment and partly under commercial circumstances with pellets produced with a KAHL type expander and a CPM 7726-7 type equipment. Based on the results of the trials we found, that by increasing the percentage of maize and increasing the average particle size the crumbling coefficient shows a linear decrease, i.e. the physical condition of pellets deteriorates.
