Identification of Salmonella strains and strains suspected of being Salmonella isolated from feedingstuffs

In the Animal Health Institute of Debrecen the processing of the feedingstuff aimed at cultivation of Salmonella is carried out in three steps: pre-concentration (in peptonwater of 1%), concentration (in selenite-novobiocin concentration material), surface streaking on solid culture-medium after concentration for 24-48 hours (XLT4 and BGA culture-medium). Pure cultures of suspected colonies are first examined for the following principal characteristics: MUCAP-reaction, citochrom-oxidase enzyme, agglutination with polyvalent O-serum.
