The effect of growing rates of phosphorus fertiliser on the yield and chemical composition of spring wheat was investigated at two nitrogen levels (N60 and N90) in LUA Experimental field near Jelgava during 1998 to 1999. Meteorological conditions were different in both years. The highest crop yield was achieved in 1998 (abundant precipitation) in treatment N90P90K90, but in 1999 (dry year) in treatment N120P90K90. There was no marked connection between the established treatments with regard to gluten content in grains, except for the treatment with no fertiliser application; in this case gluten content in grains was noted lower. In particular periods of 1999 with inadequate rainfall phosphorus content was drastically going down in dry matter of grain, but those of nitrogen and potassium were increasing that year. In straw the content of nitrogen and phosporus was not affected by the climatic conditions, but the content of potassium was higher in dry year.
