Reduced soil tillage has been investigated at the Soil Management Department of the LUA since 1982. Field trials were started on the brown heavy loam soils with the aim to investigate the possibility of reducing the plowing depth during the period of six-field grass-grain crop rotation. Four soil tillage systems were compared. The data obtained on grain crop yields and crop stand weediness (1997-1998) are presented. It was established that the reduced plowing depth did not influence the number and mass of annual weeds but could increase the number of perennial weeds. The yields of crops were not influenced.
