The objectives of the present research were: to explain the culling reasons of cows from herd, to determine the influence of growth intensity on the age at first calving and milk productivity of cows. During the investigations the optimum growth intensity, age and weight at first calving were established. Heifers and cows of the Estonian Holstein and the Estonian Red breeds were tested. The investigation procedure is described. The number of culled cows and the reasons of culling are shown in Table 1. The influence of growth intensity on the age at first calving and the milk yield is shown graphically in figure 1.
