The aim of the investigation carried out in May-June of 2000 was to determine the spread of swine enzootic pneumonia caused by the infection of pigs with Mycoplasma hyopneumonia. For detection of M.h. antibodies the enzyme - linked immunoserbent assay (ELISA) "Dako" was used. 225 unvaccinated domestic swines from 9 pig farms were investigated. The results of the investigation show that in Latvia swine enzootic pneumonia is widespread on pig farms (43% of all investigated animals were infected). The age of seropositive animals was mainly 2-5-8 months. The investigation proves that it would be advisable to begin vaccination against swine enzootic pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumonia.
