Efficacy of the different concentrations of neem oil against aphids (Aphis gossypii Glover) reared on hotpepper (Capsicum frutescens L.)

Aphids (Aphis spp.) are major pests in crop production. Aside from causing heavy yield losses, these minute plant sap suckers also serve as vectors of viral diseases. This study evaluated the efficacy of neem oil in the control of green aphids (A. gossypii). Neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) is a tree species whose leaves and seeds are known to have anti-feedant, repellant, and insecticidal properties. Findings of this study showed that plants treated with neem oil had lower aphid population. Neem oil at 1,500 ppm was as effective in reducing aphid population as those at 3000 and 4500 ppm. The repellent properties of neem can be attributed to its active principle, azadirachtin, which exhibits a systemic mode of action against aphids
