A considerable phenotypical variation within Capsicum genus seems to show a great potential for breeding yet it is much limited by the barriers of distant crossing. The present study researched the possibilities of crosses between the species of Capsicum annuum L., Capsicum baccatum, var. pendulum, Capsicum chinense Jacquin and Capsicum frutescens L. The effectiveness of crossing measured with the number of developed fruit against the number of pollinated flowers ranged from 35 to 79 percent depending on this traits of a given species and the direction of crossing. High fruit fertility was noted for Capsicum frutescens genus, especially being crossed with Capsicum chinense, while their reciprocal crossing gave the most unfavourable results
